A spotted deer that strayed into a residential area in Sharankhola, Bagerhat, was rescued by authorities and locals, with officials confirming the animal is healthy and will be released soon.

A spotted deer that wandered into a residential area in Bagerhat’s Sharankhola upazila was rescued by authorities with help from local residents, officials said.

The animal was found around 7:30pm on April 18 inside the house premises of Jamal Mira in Khuriakhali village. Residents alerted the Forest Department after noticing the deer roaming within the locality.

Responding to the call, officials from the Forest Department, members of the Wildlife Team and local volunteers reached the site and carried out the rescued operation.

Rescuers said the female deer, weighing about 25 kilograms, had likely strayed into the area after losing its way.

“With the support of local people, the deer was rescued quickly. Its physical condition was normal at the time of rescue and no signs of injury were found during initial observation. It will be released into a safe habitat after necessary examinations,” said Alam Hawlader, facilitator of the Wildlife Team.

He added that wild animals occasionally enter nearby settlements in search of food or due to tidal water movements in areas bordering the Sundarbans. He urged residents not to disturb such animals and to inform the Forest Department promptly.

The Forest Department said the deer will remain under observation before being released into a suitable habitat.
