Runa Khan, founder of the Bangladeshi NGO Friendship, has won the prestigious Earthshot Prize 2025 in the “Fix Our Climate” category for her innovative, nature-based climate adaptation work.
Her initiatives, which include large-scale mangrove afforestation, were recognised for helping protect vulnerable communities from climate impacts. Prince William presented the award to her in Rio de Janeiro.
As part of the prize, Khan received £1 million to scale up her efforts and expand protection for climate-vulnerable people.
After winning the prestigious award in 2025, she spoke with The Climate Watch.
