ICCCAD hosts roundtable dialogue on ‘the climate change impacts in the ready-made garment sector’
On 10 August 2025, the International Centre for Climate Change & Development (ICCCAD) hosted a high-level roundtable on Climate Change Impacts in the RMG Sector, bringing together renowned apparel brands, leading garment factories, development organizations, key government agencies.
The dialogue addressed the urgent effects of climate change on Bangladesh’s RMG industry and charted a path forward to protect the environment and workers, enhance resilience, and maintain global competitiveness, with stakeholders sharing strategies, commitments, and collaborative actions for meaningful adaptation.
The roundtable dialogue on ‘the climate change impacts in the ready-made garment sector’ with government bodies, garment companies, and retail brands highlighted the importance of the following aspects:
The tier 1 factories can work collaboratively and conduct capacity building of like-minded tier 2 and 3 factories related to climate-friendly and sustainability initiatives for mutual learning.
The relevant government ministries and departments should actively support the garment owners and brands to implement climate change adaptation initiatives in the garment factories to achieve climate goals and ameliorate workers’ working conditions .
Accessing the Green Climate Fund (GCF), multilateral, and other private funding will require the garment companies to work with research organizations for proposal planning, design, and submission.
An interactive group work session was conducted at the end to shed light on how garment companies, government bodies, and brands are currently working to tackle climate change identify the bottlenecks related to accessing finance, technology , and knowledge; and explore the way forward.
