Police seize six trucks in anti-illegal sand mining drive in Sreemangal

Police in Sreemangal seized six trucks in an anti-illegal sand mining drive, acting on tip-offs, as authorities continue investigations and urge public support to curb unlawful extraction activities.

Police in Sreemangal have seized six trucks during a special drive against illegal sand extraction, officials said.

The operation was conducted on Friday afternoon in Mirzapur union under Moulvibazar District following long-standing allegations of unauthorized sand mining in the area.

According to police sources, complaints had been reported for a long time about illegal sand extraction there. Acting on a tip-off, a team from Bangladesh Police carried out the drive and seized the six trucks believed to be involved.

Officials said no sand was found in the vehicles at the time of seizure.

Multiple sources at the police station said authorities initially suspect the trucks were linked to illegal sand extraction activities. Legal action against those responsible is currently underway, they added.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge Md Zahurul Islam Munna said police operations against illegal sand mining and other criminal activities would continue.

He also urged local residents to assist law enforcement by providing information about those involved in such activities.
