Prime Minister chairs meeting on nationwide 25 crore tree plantation drive

A high-level meeting was held in the capital to finalise preparations for a nationwide tree plantation campaign aimed at planting 2.5 billion saplings, alongside observance programmes for World Environment Day.

The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, was chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and attended by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo, along with officials from the ministry and the Department of Environment on today.

According to an official statement, the discussion focused on implementation planning, inter-agency coordination and public communication strategies for different phases of the campaign.

Deliberations also centred on developing effective environmental messaging to support the plantation drive and associated awareness activities marking World Environment Day, which is observed globally under the United Nations framework to promote environmental protection.

Officials concerned attended the meeting and reviewed preparatory measures, including outreach plans aimed at encouraging mass participation in afforestation and broader climate action initiatives across the country.

The campaign is expected to be implemented nationwide as part of broader efforts to expand green coverage, strengthen climate resilience and enhance public engagement in environmental conservation.
