Bangladesh has selected 21 individuals and institutions for the National Tree Plantation Awards 2025, recognising outstanding achievements in afforestation, conservation, research, innovation and environmental sustainability across the country.
Bangladesh has selected 21 individuals and institutions across seven categories for the National Tree Plantation Awards 2025 in recognition of their contributions to afforestation and environmental conservation, according to an official notification issued on Monday.
The list of award recipients was published by the Forest-2 Wing of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
In the educational institution category, Textile Institute in Natore secured first place. Bangladesh Army University of Engineering and Technology (BAUET) at Qadirabad Cantonment in Natore ranked second, while Dumuria College in Khulna finished third.
Under the category for union and upazila councils, clubs and public and private institutions, Korean EPZ in Karnaphuli, Chattogram, was awarded first place. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Sector Headquarters in Khagrachhari secured second place.
In the individual tree plantation category, Md Shafiqul Islam of Chapainawabganj won first place, followed by Md Jahangir Kabir of Narail in second position. Md Shahabaz Hossain Khan of Dhaka and Mosammat Ismatunnesa of Sunamganj jointly secured third place.
Among privately owned nurseries, Faisal Nursery in Savar, Dhaka, claimed the top position. Sathi Flower and Nursery in Bogura came second, while Diploma Krishibid Nursery in Savar secured third place.
In the rooftop gardening category, Sharmin Akter of Rajshahi won first place. Asfia Sabina of Dhaka secured second place, while Arifa Siddika, administrator of Sherpur Municipality, finished third.
For plantations established by the Forest Department, the Coastal Forest Division in Patuakhali ranked first. The Social Forestry Division in Jashore came second and the Mymensingh Forest Division secured third place.
In the special category for research, conservation and innovation related to trees, Mahfuz Ahmed Russell, proprietor of the Pitachhara Forest and Wildlife Conservation Initiative in Khagrachhari, was awarded first place. Md Rafiqul Amin of Dhaka secured second position, while Professor Mohammad Enamul Haque Khan of Cumilla finished third.
The National Tree Plantation Awards are presented annually to recognise outstanding contributions by individuals and organisations in promoting tree planting, conservation and environmental sustainability across Bangladesh.
