A python trapped in household garden fencing was safely rescued by Forest Department personnel and volunteers before being returned to its protected Sundarbans habitat.
A 10-foot-long python was rescued after becoming trapped in the garden fencing of a house in Koyra, in Bangladesh’s Khulna district, and was later released into the Sundarbans, officials said.
The python was found at the house of Afzal Sana in the Patharkhali Closure area, under the jurisdiction of the Shakbaria Forest Patrol Outpost in the Khulna Range of the Sundarbans West Forest Division.
At about 3 p.m. last Monday, Forest Department personnel led by Md. Shahinur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the Shakbaria Forest Patrol Outpost, along with members of the Community Patrol Group (CPG) and Village Tiger Response Team (VTRT), went to the site after receiving a report that the snake had become trapped in the garden fencing.
The team rescued the python and released it into the protected Sundarbans.
Confirming the incident, Shahinur Rahman said he received a call at around 3 p.m. reporting that a python that had strayed from the protected Sundarbans was trapped in the garden fencing at Sana’s house in the Patharkhali Closure area.
He immediately went to the site with accompanying staff, as well as CPG and VTRT members, rescued the snake and released it back into the protected Sundarbans.
The python measured approximately 10 feet in length and weighed around 11 kilograms.
