Yorkshire Wildlife Trust launches Wildlife Hero Awards for nature champions

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has launched Wildlife Hero Awards to recognise individuals, businesses and community groups contributing to wildlife conservation and nature restoration across Yorkshire during the organisation’s 80th anniversary celebrations.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has launched a new environmental awards programme to recognise people and organisations making a difference for wildlife conservation across the county as part of its 80th anniversary celebrations.

The newly announced Wildlife Hero Awards will honour individuals, businesses and community groups whose work has had a significant impact on protecting and restoring nature in Yorkshire.

Rachael Bice, chief executive of the Trust, said the organisation’s conservation success over the past eight decades had relied on support from people working for wildlife in many different settings.

“The Trust has been working to protect and restore nature across the county for 80 years but we have never done it alone,” she said.

“Our impact has only been possible thanks to the dedication, knowledge and commitment of people and organisations who take action for wildlife every day, in fields, schools, workplaces, communities and beyond.”

She added: “To mark our anniversary, we want to shine a spotlight on the people working tirelessly and often behind the scenes to make a difference for wildlife.”

The awards feature 10 categories, including Young Person, Farmer, Business and Environmental Sector Professional.

Winners will be chosen by a judging panel made up of Trust staff, trustees and partner organisations.

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place during the Trust’s annual general meeting at York College on October 3.

Nominations will remain open until August 14, 2026 and entries can be submitted through the Trust’s website.

Successful nominees will receive prizes in recognition of their contribution to wildlife conservation efforts across Yorkshire.
