The discussion focused on expanding collaboration between government and media to strengthen climate reporting, improve journalists’ capacity, and promote Bangladesh’s environmental and climate initiatives through international communication.
A delegation from the South Asian Climate Change Journalists Forum (SACCJF) met Bangladesh’s State Minister for Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Sheikh Faridul Islam, on Wednesday to discuss closer cooperation between the government and the media on climate and environmental issues.
The delegation was led by the forum’s Secretary General, Karamat Ullah Biplob. During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of coordinated cooperation between the government and the media to more effectively highlight climate change, environmental conservation and Bangladesh’s adaptation efforts and success stories at home and abroad.
The South Asian Climate Change Journalists Forum presented several proposals during the meeting, including strengthening journalists’ capacity, expanding international cooperation on climate issues, increasing opportunities for field-based data-driven reporting and establishing Bangladesh as a regional hub for climate communication.
The delegation also said Bangladesh’s initiatives in forest conservation, environmental protection, biodiversity, climate adaptation and sustainable development should be showcased worldwide through international-standard documentaries.
Faridul welcomed the proposals and praised the constructive role of journalists and the media in raising climate awareness.
Both sides expressed hope for continued cooperation on climate-related issues in the future.
