Bangladesh and Türkiye are seeking to deepen bilateral cooperation as Dhaka prepares to engage in key global climate negotiations at COP31.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to visit Türkiye in November to attend the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31), State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir said yesterday.
COP31 is scheduled to be held in Antalya, Türkiye, from November 9 to 20, where world leaders and negotiators will gather to advance discussions on global climate action.
Kobir disclosed the premier’s travel plan during a meeting with Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Musa Kulaklıkaya, held on the sidelines of the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on regional developments and reaffirmed their readiness to work closely on issues of mutual interest.
They also reviewed the state of Bangladesh-Türkiye bilateral relations, expressing satisfaction over ongoing cooperation in several sectors, including the economy and defence.
The two officials underscored the need to further deepen and expand cooperation in areas of shared interest between the two countries.
The meeting comes as Bangladesh gears up for its participation in COP31, where countries are expected to continue negotiations on global climate action, adaptation strategies, climate finance and building resilience against climate-induced disasters.
