PKSF signs deal to launch $70 million climate and nutrition project

A $70 million nationwide project supporting climate-resilient agriculture, green entrepreneurship, nutrition and inclusive financial services, benefiting 260,000 vulnerable people.

Bangladesh’s Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation, or PKSF, has signed a subsidiary loan and grant agreement with the Finance Division under the Ministry of Finance to implement a $70 million nationwide project aimed at advancing climate-resilient agriculture, environment-friendly enterprises and nutrition.

The agreement was signed at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday by PKSF Deputy Managing Director Dr Akond Mohammad Rafiqul Islam and Joint Secretary of the Finance Division Mst Nazneen.

The project, titled “Growth for Climate Resilient and Environmental Entrepreneurship and Nutrition” or GREEN, will be financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development through the Bangladesh government.

It will be implemented across the country from 2026 to 2031, with priority given to selected regions based on poverty trends, climate risks and agricultural potential.

Around 260,000 people are expected to come under the project, including poor and marginal farmers, women and youth entrepreneurs, small agricultural entrepreneurs, families living in climate-vulnerable areas and people from ethnic minorities.

The initiative will focus on building climate-resilient and environmentally friendly food systems, expanding inclusive financial services and strengthening institutional capacity.

It will also place emphasis on contributing to the creative economy, producing safe food, expanding climate-resilient agriculture, increasing the income of rural entrepreneurs and building sustainable production systems.
