PHP starts solar-powered electricity generation

This will reduce carbon emissions by about 1,100 tonnes

PHP Family, a leading conglomerate of the country, has added a new dimension to the country’s solar energy sector as it started its own power generation by installing solar panels on the roofs of its textile and steel mills.

In the initial stage, a total of 1,740 kilowatt solar panels have been installed in the two factories. The target is to generate about 2,000 megawatts of electricity annually from these panels.

This will reduce carbon emissions by about 1,100 tonnes. PHP will generate electricity from sunlight and use it in its factories. As a result, electricity consumption will be saved.

PHP Family Chairman Sufi Mohammad Mizanur Rahman inaugurated the solar power generation activities at the Kumira factory in Sitakunda Upazila of Chittagong on Tuesday.

The company’s Vice Chairman Mohammad Mohsin, Director Anwarul Haque, Amir Hossain Sohel, Zahirul Islam Rinku, Management Intern Victor Mizan Mohsin, Executive Director Shafiqur Rahman Khan were present at the time.

Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury, director of the Energy Research Center of United International University and renewable energy expert, welcomed this initiative of PHP Family.

It is worth noting that solar energy is an environmentally friendly energy source. Using it reduces carbon emissions and helps reduce the rate of climate change.

An official of PHP Family, Shafiqur Rahman Khan, said, “In the future, we have plans to install solar panels on the roofs of other institutions as well.

“This will make it possible to meet a significant part of the company’s total electricity needs from its own sources.”
