MoEFCC climate wing head praises YouthNet Global’s decade of climate action

MoEFCC Climate Change Wing Head Mohammad Navid Safiullah has praised YouthNet Global’s decade-long contribution to climate action, climate justice, youth engagement and community resilience, marking the organisation’s 10th anniversary.

Additional Secretary Mohammad Navid Safiullah commends youth-led organisation’s role in climate justice, just transition and NDC 3.0 engagement.

YouthNet Global, one of Bangladesh’s leading grassroots youth climate justice organisations, has earned recognition for its decade-long contribution to climate action, environmental protection and youth engagement from Mohammad Navid Safiullah, Additional Secretary and Head of the Climate Change Wing of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), on the organisation’s 10th anniversary.

In a felicitation message, Safiullah acknowledged YouthNet Global’s role in connecting grassroots voices with national and global decision-making processes while empowering young people through advocacy, education and inclusive action to strengthen community resilience.

He particularly commended the organisation’s efforts in advancing a just transition and promoting meaningful youth participation in Bangladesh’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0 process, describing these contributions as important for strengthening inclusive climate governance in the country.

The senior government official also highlighted the organisation’s work across a range of environmental and climate priorities, including pollution control, biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation and mitigation, climate finance, loss and damage and capacity development.

“Its role in advancing a just transition and promoting meaningful youth engagement in Bangladesh’s NDC 3.0 process is particularly commendable,” Safiullah said in his message.

Among the initiatives recognised in the message were the Y-Just: Building Sustainable and Equitable Futures in Bangladesh Initiative, which promotes youth-led climate justice and just transition; the #SolveLeadPollution Campaign, aimed at addressing toxic lead contamination and protecting public health; and the Eco Olympiad, which promotes climate literacy and environmental awareness among young people.

Over the past decade, YouthNet Global has worked with thousands of young people and communities across Bangladesh on climate justice, environmental protection, youth leadership, gender equality, human rights and sustainable development initiatives. Through local, national, regional and international engagement, the organisation has amplified youth voices in policy discussions and supported community-led responses to environmental and climate challenges.

YouthNet Global, led by Executive Coordinator Sohanur Rahman, expressed gratitude for the recognition and said the message reinforces its commitment to working alongside climate-vulnerable communities, promoting youth leadership and advancing equitable and sustainable solutions to the climate crisis.

The organisation is currently observing its 10th anniversary under the theme “10 Years of Impact”, celebrating a decade of youth-led action and community engagement across Bangladesh and beyond.

“I firmly believe that YouthNet Global will continue to make its mark in advancing climate justice and enhancing the resilience and livelihoods of grassroots communities affected by climate-induced risks,” Safiullah said, wishing the organisation continued success and lasting impact in the years ahead.
