ICCES marked its first anniversary by reviewing progress, setting future priorities and stressing tree monitoring as Bangladesh pursues a 50 million tree-planting initiative.

The Institute of Climate Change, Environment and Sustainability has urged collective action to build a green nation and mitigate the adverse effects of climate change, calling for stronger public awareness, civic responsibility and nationwide afforestation.

Members of the Dhaka-based institute made the call at a meeting held at Jaitun Restaurant in Agargaon, Dhaka, to mark the organisation’s first anniversary.

The meeting, presided over by ICCES Chairman Engr. Sheikh Tajul Islam Tuhin, reviewed the institute’s achievements over the past year and outlined its strategic action plan for the coming year. Members also announced plans for a large-scale anniversary celebration.

Speakers said climate change affects everyone indiscriminately and requires a unified public response. They stressed the need to raise public awareness and foster civic responsibility to protect the environment.

They also emphasised a holistic approach to climate action, from green procurement to climate-resilient measures in all development activities across the country.

Referring to the government’s initiative to plant 50 million trees, speakers said proper care and monitoring would be essential to secure long-term benefits. They called on the relevant authorities to effectively address implementation challenges.

ICCES said it marks Oct. 8 as its foundation day and would organise a series of programmes and events in December to officially celebrate its anniversary.
