Police raid in Purbachal exposes illegal horse slaughter ring, rescuing eleven animals and uncovering meat sold as beef, raising alarm over food safety, fraud, and animal welfare concerns in Bangladesh.

Authorities have uncovered a shocking case of illegal meat trading near Dhaka, rescuing eleven horses and seizing nine slaughtered animals from a secluded plot in East Purbachal.

The raid took place on Friday, March 27, in the morning at a deserted plot in Harar Bari, Sector 10, Rupganj Upazila, after police received an urgent tip-off about illegal activities. Officers found a criminal ring illegally slaughtering horses and selling the meat as beef to restaurants and local markets in the surrounding areas.

Harun Or Rashid, in-charge of the East Purbachal Police Camp, confirmed the operation. “Upon receiving the tip, our team immediately rushed to the isolated plot. The gang fled upon seeing the police, but we were able to recover nine slaughtered horses and eleven live animals,” he said.

The case raises serious concerns about food safety, fraudulent meat practices and animal welfare. Police have identified the dishonest traders and are taking legal action against them.

This incident highlights the risks posed by unregulated meat sales and the importance of consumer vigilance in Bangladesh.
