Farmers, environmental activists and community representatives explored local challenges and ways to strengthen sustainable agriculture and climate action through the Green Coalition.
A workshop on agroecology, food sovereignty and climate justice was held in Atpara upazila of Bangladesh’s Netrakona district on Thursday, bringing together members of the local Green Coalition Committee to discuss sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation and responses to climate change.
The workshop, organised by the non-governmental development organisation BARCIK, began at 3:00 pm at the Atpara Upazila Government Public Library auditorium.
Fifteen members of the Green Coalition Committee took part, including farmers, fishers, young people, journalists, environmental activists, women organisers and teachers.
Participants discussed agroecology, food sovereignty and climate justice in detail, with speakers stressing the importance of developing sustainable agricultural systems, protecting the environment and raising awareness about addressing the impacts of climate change.
The workshop was chaired by Md Sazedur Rahman, an assistant professor and environmental activist who serves as president of the Atpara Upazila Committee of the Atpara Green Coalition.
Vice-president Syed Maksudul Haque, farmer-researcher Sayed Ahmed Khan and BARCIK programme officer Parbati Singh attended as special guests.
Speakers included farmer Sayed Ahmed Khan, Nasrin Akter, Abdul Wadud Khan, manager of Fosholer Hospital, journalist Maksudul Haque and Faisal Chowdhury, along with other participants.
Participants also discussed contemporary problems in Atpara and initiatives to address them. They expressed their commitment to strengthening the Green Coalition’s activities at the local level.
