Four organisations unite for inclusive climate adaptation

Four organisations have joined forces to promote gender-responsive and disability-inclusive approaches to disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation in Bangladesh.

The Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS) of Dhaka University, Centre for Disability in Development (CDD), Nature Conservation Management (NACOM), and YouthNet Global signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the capital, forming a ‘Joint Learning Sharing Platform’ to advance inclusive climate adaptation at both national and international levels on August 13, 2025.

Under the agreement, the partners will collaborate on policy research, training, advocacy, experience sharing, and field visits to climate-affected areas.

The MoU was signed by IDMVS Director Dr Mohammad Moniruzzaman Khan, NACOM Executive Director Dr Munjurul Hannan Khan, YouthNet Global Executive Coordinator Sohanur Rahman, and CDD Executive Director Nazmul Bari. Bangladesh Open University Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mahbuba Nasreen attended the event.

Speakers at the ceremony stressed the need for active participation of marginalised groups in climate action. “Climate adaptation cannot truly succeed unless it ensures the participation of those who are most vulnerable—persons with disabilities, women, youth, and marginalised communities,” said Sohanur Rahman. “This partnership is a step towards a just and inclusive response to the climate crisis.”
