Marking World Environment Day, youths in Satkhira organized a bicycle rally to raise awareness about plastic pollution and highlight the urgent need to protect the Sundarbans for future generations.
A bicycle rally promoting environmental awareness and calling for an end to plastic pollution was held on Sunday, June 7, in Kaliganj Upazila of Satkhira district in southwestern Bangladesh to mark World Environment Day 2026 under the theme “Save the Sundarbans, Stop Plastic Pollution.”
The awareness campaign was organized by Youth for Sundarbans and drew voluntary participation from Janakalyan Sangstha, the largest youth organization in Kaliganj Upazila.
Organizers said the rally aimed to spread awareness about the harmful impacts of plastic pollution and encourage greater public responsibility toward environmental protection.
Participants highlighted the importance of the Sundarbans, describing it as more than a forest and a symbol of the country’s existence, security and future. They stressed the need to protect the world’s largest mangrove forest and preserve it for future generations.

The event reflected the commitment of young people to environmental conservation and sustainable development, organizers said, adding that such initiatives can inspire broader community action in addressing environmental challenges.
They also emphasized that the fight for a greener planet requires collective efforts and that today’s actions can serve as motivation for positive change in the future.
“Nature survives, people survive. If the Sundarbans survive, Bangladesh survives,” organizers said while reiterating their call for increased awareness and action against plastic pollution.
