Bangladesh strengthens climate finance coordination at BCDP board meeting

Bangladesh discussed strengthening climate finance coordination, project pipelines and policy reforms at the second BCDP Board Meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday with government and development partners.

The second board meeting of the Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership (BCDP) was held on Saturday at the conference room of the Prime Minister’s Office, marking continued efforts to strengthen climate finance coordination and implementation in Bangladesh.

The BCDP is expected to serve as a key coordination mechanism to strengthen Bangladesh’s climate governance and improve the effectiveness of climate investments in the coming years.

A. B. M. Abdus Sattar, Chairman of BCDP presided over the meeting while Mohammad Raihan Kaosar, who serves as Member Secretary of the Board, initiated the agenda-wise discussions.

Senior secretaries from relevant ministries and divisions, senior government officials and representatives of development partners attended the meeting.

Mohammad Navid Safiullah, additional secretary of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change delivered a presentation on the progress and framework of the Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership. The presentation outlined key operational priorities, followed by discussions on strengthening coordination, improving project pipelines and enhancing access to climate finance.

Mohammad Navid Safiullah said the BCDP is a government-led platform designed to mobilise climate finance, support policy reforms and scale up adaptation and mitigation actions in line with national strategies.

Officials said the platform aims to better align international climate funding with Bangladesh’s priorities while reducing duplication among implementing agencies. It operates through specialised working groups focused on climate finance mobilisation, policy acceleration, innovative project development and knowledge sharing.
