Authorities ordered the owner in Maheshpur to provide dry shelter and food within 15 days, warning of legal action if conditions for the animals do not improve.

A local government official in Bangladesh’s Jhenaidah district rescued four buffaloes on Sunday night after reports spread on social media that the animals had been kept tied in muddy water for three months.

The buffaloes belonged to Abdul Alim of Gokulnagar village in Maheshpur upazila, an administrative sub-district of Jhenaidah.

The area around the house was flooded with mud. Alim’s four buffaloes had been tied there around the clock for the past three months, according to the report.

Maheshpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Sajjad Hossain, the chief local administrative official, went to Alim’s home after receiving the information and arranged for the buffaloes to be moved to a dry place beside the house.

He also instructed the family to build a proper place for the animals within 15 days.

The family has been directed to ensure a safe place and adequate food for the buffaloes. Legal action has been warned if they fail to create a suitable environment for the animals within 15 days.

“The family has been directed to ensure a safe place and adequate food for the buffaloes. If they fail to create a suitable environment for the animals within 15 days, legal action will be taken,” Sajjad Hossain said.
