In a major recognition of sustainable industrial practices, 30 industrial establishments across 16 sectors have been awarded the prestigious Green Factory Award 2025 for their exemplary commitment to eco-friendly operations and environmental compliance.
The awards were presented on Monday (June 23) at a formal ceremony held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka. Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain, Advisor to the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Shipping, attended the event as chief guest. Adilur Rahman Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Industries and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, was present as the special guest.
Organised under the Green Factory Award Policy-2020 by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the award aims to encourage sustainable industrialisation by honouring companies that lead in environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance.
Among this year’s recipients were two entities from PRAN-RFL Group—Charka Textile Limited and Habiganj Agro Limited.
The shipbuilding and shipbreaking sector saw recognition for three companies: PHP Shipbreaking and Recycling Industries Ltd and KR Ship Recycling Yard in Chattogram, and Khulna Shipyard Ltd.
In other sectors, Seven Circle (Bangladesh) Ltd of Gazipur received the award in the cement category, while BSRM Steels Ltd in Chattogram was recognised under steel mills.
Pragati Industries Ltd of Chattogram was the sole awardee in the automobile category. From the electrical and electronics sector, Transcom Electronics Ltd and Fair Electronics Ltd in Narsingdi, along with Walton Hi-Tech Industries Ltd in Gazipur, were recognised for their green initiatives.
In food processing, Akij Food and Beverage Ltd (Dhaka) and Habiganj Agro Ltd were honoured. Jerin Tea Garden (Sreemangal) and Mirzapur Tea Garden were the awardees in the tea industry. X Ceramics Ltd (Gazipur) was acknowledged under the tiles and ceramics sector.
Cosmetics manufacturers Remark HB Ltd (Munshiganj) and Square Toiletries Ltd (Narayanganj) were celebrated for their contributions to sustainability. SKF Pharmaceuticals Ltd in Gazipur was the sole recipient in the pharmaceuticals category.
Each awardee received a crest, certificate, and a cash prize of Tk 1 lakh. A commemorative booklet titled Green Factory Award-2025 was also launched at the event.
AHM Shafiquzzaman, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, presided over the ceremony. The welcome speech was delivered by Omar Md. Imrul Mohsin, Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments. Bangladesh Employers’ Federation President Ardashir Kabir also addressed the gathering.
The initiative underscores the government’s focus on advancing environmentally sound industrial growth and setting new standards for sustainability in Bangladesh’s manufacturing landscape.
