Bangladesh and Germany have signed a memorandum of understanding in Dhaka to launch a 5 million euro grant-backed project aimed at modernising technical and vocational education in the renewable energy sector.
The project, titled TVET4RE, will be implemented by the Technical and Madrasah Education Division with financial support from GIZ, Germany’s development agency, according to the agreement signed by both sides.
Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky, secretary of the Economic Relations Division, signed the memorandum on behalf of Bangladesh, while Mark Gombert, country director of the GIZ Office Dhaka, represented Germany.
Under the initiative, the Directorate of Technical Education and the Bangladesh Technical Education Board will implement the project under TMED from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2028.
The project aims to strengthen and modernise Bangladesh’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training system by aligning it with the changing labour market in the sustainable energy sector.
Germany will provide a 5 million euro grant to finance the initiative, as outlined in the memorandum of understanding.
Germany has been a development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 and has so far committed around 4 billion euros in financial and technical assistance to the country.
At present, 19 projects are being implemented in Bangladesh with GIZ grant support totalling 110.16 million euros.
