Bangladesh Coast Guard’s tree-planting drive in Mongla targets environmental balance, biodiversity conservation, soil erosion prevention and climate resilience across coastal areas.
Bangladesh Coast Guard has launched a tree-planting programme in Mongla, in the southwestern coastal district of Bagerhat, with around 9,400 saplings to be planted across areas under its Western Zone.
The “Tree Planting Programme-2026” aims to help maintain environmental balance, conserve biodiversity and address the adverse effects of climate change in the coastal region.
The programme was inaugurated on Wednesday by Sheikh Faridul Islam, a state minister at Bangladesh’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, under the theme “Let us decorate the country through tree planting, Bangladesh first.”
The programme was organised by Enroute Foundation under the overall supervision of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, with a focus on protecting the environment and biodiversity in Mongla and surrounding coastal areas.
Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said the saplings would help maintain ecological balance in coastal areas, prevent soil erosion, preserve habitats for biodiversity and mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.
He said the Coast Guard would continue such activities in the future to protect the natural environment and biodiversity of Mongla and surrounding coastal areas.
