Aumi advocates equitable, accessible climate finance

She continues to inspire and mobilise young people to act and shape a more sustainable future.

Fariha Aumi, a resolute climate activist from Bangladesh, has been working tirelessly for climate justice since 2018. She is currently the chair of Brighters Society of Bangladesh – one of the nation’s largest youth-led non-profit organisations.

Aumi’s journey into activism began with her involvement in the global “Fridays for Future” movement. She and her team organised impactful strikes across sixty-four districts in Bangladesh, amplifying the voices of the Most Affected People and Areas (MAPA).

Their efforts extended beyond demonstrations, as they collaborated with various NGOs and INGOs to initiate innovative projects aimed at addressing climate change.

One such significant project was the Bangladesh Youth COP – a pre-COP event designed to gather and amplify the voices of young people from the grassroots to the national level.

This platform empowered youths to engage in policy advocacy and contribute to climate decision-making processes.

Additionally, Aumi played a crucial role in the establishment of the Bangladesh Youth Climate Parliament, a forum where young leaders can discuss and develop climate solutions.

To further promote climate education and awareness, Aumi contributed to the creation of “Climate Times,” a Bengali-language website dedicated to climate change issues.

This platform provides accessible information and empowers individuals to understand the complexities of climate change and its impacts.

Moreover, she participated in the development of “Grohorotno,” a comic book that uses storytelling to engage young readers and inspire climate action.

As COP29 approaches, Aumi’s expectations are clear, she advocates for equitable and accessible climate finance for Bangladesh.

Recognizing the disproportionate impact of climate change on vulnerable countries such as Bangladesh, she believes that securing adequate financial resources is essential to implement effective climate adaptation and mitigation measures.

By advocating for climate justice and sustainable development, Aumi continues to inspire and mobilise young people to act and shape a more sustainable future.
