ADB country director meets Mintoo to boost climate finance cooperation

ADB’s Bangladesh country director and Environment Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo discussed climate finance cooperation, policy reform and the proposed Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership to support adaptation and mitigation efforts.

The Asian Development Bank Country Director in Bangladesh Hoe Yun Jeong met Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo at his office in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday to advance cooperation on climate finance.

The meeting focused on strengthening climate finance and expanding partnership initiatives, according to a ministry press release.

Both sides held detailed discussions on developing the framework of the Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership (BCDP) and explored effective strategies to mobilise climate finance through the platform.

Mintoo said Bangladesh would pursue both adaptation and mitigation projects to address the impacts of climate change, drawing on domestic and international funding sources. He expressed hope that the BCDP would play a key role in driving these efforts and sought full cooperation from ADB.

Hoe Yun Jeong said the BCDP is designed to boost partnerships for mobilising climate finance, accelerate policy reforms, strengthen capacity for innovative climate projects and promote knowledge sharing.

Environment Secretary Mohammed Rayhan Kaosar and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
