Youth leadership climate workshop held in Sandwip

A YPSA-organized workshop in Sandwip brought coastal youth together to build climate literacy, discuss climate risks, and strengthen leadership for local climate action amid growing environmental challenges in coastal Bangladesh.

A workshop titled “Youth Leadership and Climate Literacy-2025” was held on Thursday (December 25) at Senerhat in Sandwip Upazila of Chattogram, the second-largest city in Bangladesh, with a focus on strengthening youth engagement in climate action and environmental awareness.

The workshop, organized by YPSA, brought together young participants to discuss the growing impacts of climate change, particularly in coastal regions like Sandwip, and the role of youth leadership in addressing these challenges.

Md. Humayun Iqbal, Area Manager of the Sandwip Area, attended the event as the chief guest. Md. Abul Hashem, Branch Manager of the Senerhat Branch, and Sidratul Munthaha, President of the Youth People of Bangladesh team, were also present at the programme.

Speakers at the workshop highlighted the risks and challenges posed by climate change to coastal communities, emphasizing the urgent need to enhance climate literacy among young people. They stressed that meaningful action against climate change requires youth to step forward as leaders and actively participate in environmental initiatives.

Participants shared their experiences, views and ideas during the discussions and expressed a strong commitment to remain engaged in climate-related activities in the future.

The organizers said they hoped such workshops would play a vital role in raising climate awareness among youth and in building their leadership capacity to respond effectively to climate change.
