Youth groups reflect on COP30 at Chattogram dialogue

Representatives of 43 youth organisations gathered in Chattogram to share COP30 experiences, discuss climate challenges, and build collaboration for coordinated local action against environmental and climate crises in Bangladesh today.

Youth representatives from 43 organisations working on environmental protection and climate change gathered in Chattogram, the second-largest city in Bangladesh, on Monday (December 29) to share experiences from COP30 and discuss coordinated local action to tackle the climate crisis.

The event titled “COP30 Reflection: Experience Sharing and Climate Dialogue” was held at the Chattogram Zila Shilpakala Academy through a joint initiative of Young Power in Social Action (YPSA), Nogorful and Youth People of Bangladesh. He stressed that young people in Chattogram can play a more effective role in environmental and climate initiatives by working closely with government and non-government organisations.

Afra Nawar, youth coordinator of YPSA, attended as a special guest and shared detailed insights into the background of COP30, major discussions at the global climate conference and her real-life experiences from the platform. She also offered guidance on how Bangladeshi youth can participate in future COP conferences.

Mohammad Saiful Kader, general secretary of Red Crescent Youth Alumni Chattogram, spoke about environmental pollution caused by industries and factories in the city and highlighted its negative impacts on people and nature.

Selim Jahangir, a representative of CAB, called on youth organisations to unite in addressing environmental and climate challenges. Bayezid Suman, founder of Nogorful, urged groups working on climate and environmental issues to collaborate more closely to achieve greater impact.

The programme was chaired by Sidratul Munthaha, president of the Youth People of Bangladesh. She said environmental and climate challenges in Chattogram are complex and multifaceted and cannot be addressed without collective efforts and unity among all organisations.

Executive members of Youth People of Bangladesh and Nogorful, as well as representatives from various environment-focused organisations, attended the event, which concluded with experience sharing, meaningful discussions and the formulation of future action plans.
