The talks linked ASEAN-Brazil environmental cooperation with upcoming global climate and biodiversity negotiations in Türkiye and Armenia, following COP30 in Belém.

Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Kao Kim Hourn met Brazil’s Vice Minister of Environment and Climate Change, H.E. Anna Flávia Franco, in Brasilia on 18 August 2026 during his working visit to Brazil.

The two sides exchanged views on shared environmental and climate priorities and explored opportunities to further strengthen ASEAN-Brazil cooperation.

They also reflected on Brazil’s successful hosting of the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or COP30, in Belém.

The meeting also touched on Brazil’s leadership in the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity and discussed ways to build on that momentum towards UNFCCC COP31 and CBD COP17, to be held later this year in Türkiye and Armenia, respectively.
