A council in England is offering grants of up to £5,000 for community-led climate initiatives, supporting local projects such as tree planting, recycling and sustainable transport schemes.
A local authority in England is offering fresh funding of between £400 and £5,000 for community-led projects aimed at tackling climate change, with applications set to open in April.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council said the grants could support initiatives such as tree planting, transport schemes or recycling projects, as part of its latest round of funding under the Community Climate Change Fund.
The council said applications for this round will be accepted from 1 April to 31 May, with another funding window expected to open in the autumn.
Since launching the fund in 2021, the authority has already awarded grants to around 40 community groups working on climate-focused initiatives.
Projects supported so far include a tree planting scheme run by Dane Valley Climate Action Group, a green arts festival organised by Moorlands Climate Action and a weed and litter picking campaign arranged by Longnor Action Group.
Nigel Yates, the councillor responsible for the environment, said the funding aims to empower communities to take action locally.
“By providing community-led schemes with these grants we’re making sure people can take action at a very local level,” he said.
