Citizen platforms in Gobindaganj showcased how local engagement can improve access to safety nets, address social challenges and promote inclusion for marginalised communities.
Representatives from the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh and NAGIRIKATA-CEF visited Gobindaganj in Bangladesh’s northern Gaibandha district on 12-13 July 2026 for grassroots engagements under the NAGORIC Project of MJF.
The two-day visit, organised by the NAGORIC Project of MJF in partnership with Abalamban and We Can, focused on citizen participation, inclusive governance and community-led action.
Members of the Upazila and Union Citizen Platforms shared their work in helping Indigenous Peoples, older persons, widows and persons with disabilities access government social safety net programmes.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to working with local government so that no eligible person is left behind.
Community members discussed local priorities, including improving infrastructure, preventing gender-based violence and child marriage and keeping children in school.
The visit concluded with a cultural awareness session in Changura, where members of the Oraon, Santal and Malpahari communities presented traditional songs and dances, highlighting Indigenous cultural heritage and inclusion.
The initiative is supported by the Nagorikata: Civic Engagement Fund, funded by the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh, the High Commission of Canada to Bangladesh and the European Union in Bangladesh, and managed by GFA Consulting Group.
