Spotted deer rescued and released back in Sundarbans

A spotted deer that entered a Satkhira village from the Sundarbans was rescued unharmed by the Forest Department and released back into the forest on Tuesday morning.

A spotted deer that wandered into a human settlement from the Sundarbans was rescued and safely released back into the forest on Tuesday morning.

Experts link these incidents to habitat disturbance, rising salinity, food scarcity and increased human-animal interaction in forest fringe areas, urging stronger conservation measures and community vigilance to ensure wildlife safety.

The incident took place in Arpangashia village of Burigoalini Union under Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira district. Local resident Rustam Ali said villagers noticed the deer roaming around the area early in the morning and immediately informed the Forest Department.

Following the alert, a rescue team from the Forest Department rushed to the spot and recovered the animal without harm. Burigoalini Forest Station Officer Ziaur Rahman said the information was received through members of the Community Patrol Group (CPG).

After the rescue, the deer was taken to the Munshiganj Forest Office area and later released into the Sundarbans, he added.

Forest officials said such incidents have been occurring more frequently in recent weeks. Over the past three weeks, at least three deer and one wild boar have reportedly strayed into nearby localities from the Sundarbans.
