National river monitoring data showed more stations rising than falling as officials reported inundation in low-lying parts of Habiganj district.
Water in the Khowai River in Bangladesh’s Habiganj district was flowing 130 centimetres above the danger level following an upstream surge, triggering flooding in low-lying areas of the district.
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) reported the situation on Today.
Saidur Rahman, executive engineer of the Habiganj Water Development Board, told that the Khowai was flowing 130 centimetres above the danger level at the Balla point.
“Rising waters have inundated the low-lying areas of the district,” he said.
According to FFWC data, water levels were rising at 75 of the country’s 127 river monitoring stations during the previous 24 hours.
Water levels were falling at 46 monitoring stations while six remained unchanged.
