Human Safety Foundation planted fruit and forest trees across five districts on World Environment Day, engaging youth and communities to promote environmental conservation, climate resilience and awareness of nature-based solutions.
Human Safety Foundation (HSF) carried out a tree plantation campaign across five districts of Bangladesh on Thursday to mark World Environment Day, engaging young people in efforts to promote environmental conservation and climate resilience.
The programme was held in Bogura, Manikganj, Narail, Mymensingh and Habiganj, where participants planted a variety of fruit-bearing and forest trees. Trees were planted in school premises, residential yards and open spaces as part of the initiative.
HSF officials, members and volunteers took part in the campaign. Alongside tree plantation activities, organisers also raised awareness among local communities about the importance of trees in protecting the environment.
Speaking during the programme, HSF member Firoz Hasan said the impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly visible around the world and Bangladesh is not immune to its adverse effects.
“Risks from heatwaves, floods and other natural disasters are increasing. Trees play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance and addressing the impacts of climate change,” he said.
Hasan called on people from all walks of life to take part in tree plantation efforts in their respective communities.
HSF said it plans to further expand its tree plantation programmes in the future as part of its commitment to environmental protection and building a climate-resilient Bangladesh. The organisation said greater involvement of young people will be encouraged and greening activities will be strengthened nationwide.
