Four more Bangladesh garment factories secure LEED green certification

The latest certifications highlight Bangladesh’s growing position in sustainable apparel manufacturing, with two factories reaching Platinum, one Gold and one Silver under LEED standards across Chattogram, Gazipur and Dhaka.

Four more ready-made garment factories in Bangladesh have received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, taking the country’s total number of LEED-certified RMG factories to 290, according to a statement by Mohiuddin Rubel, Founder and CEO of Bangladesh Apparel Voice.

The newly certified factories are Canvas Garments Pvt. Ltd. and Matrix Sweaters Ltd., which received Platinum certification, Karim Textiles Limited, which received Gold certification and Karim Tex Limited, which received Silver certification.

With the latest additions, Bangladesh now has 125 Platinum-rated and 145 Gold-rated LEED-certified RMG factories.

Canvas Garments Pvt. Ltd., located in the port city of Chattogram, secured 90 points under the LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4.1 rating system.

Matrix Sweaters Ltd. in Gazipur, an industrial district near the capital Dhaka, earned 88 points under the same rating system.

Karim Textiles Limited, located in Kaliakoir in Gazipur, received Gold certification with 73 points under LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4.1.

Karim Tex Limited in Dhamrai, Dhaka, achieved Silver certification with 53 points under LEED O+M: Existing Buildings v4.

Bangladesh also has 53 of the world’s top 100 highest-scoring LEED-certified factories, according to the statement.
