Speakers, children and organisers brought together economic, health and creative perspectives, stressing community engagement and youth involvement in tackling climate change.
A seminar in Ilford, east London, has highlighted the economic and health impacts of climate change and the need to raise public awareness of the crisis.
The seminar, organised by Advocacy for Green Energy, was held on Saturday at the auditorium of Cranbrook Baptist Church. The event began with an opening address by the organisation’s chief organiser, Syed Iqbal.
Economist Dr Selim Jahan, Professor Shahaduz Zaman, barrister Al Mostakim and Dr Imtiaz Ahmed were the main speakers.
They discussed the economic effects of climate change, its adverse consequences for public health and the need to increase awareness to address the crisis.
Syeda Tamanna read out a condolence motion in response to deaths in recent heatwaves and a landslide in Nepal.
The event was coordinated by Sahab Ahmed, Mustafa Kamal Milon, Tahur Saeed and Araf Ahmed. Medical students Nabiha, Syeda Subarna, Rimjhim Ahmed and Syeda Filza introduced speakers during different sessions of the seminar.
The programme also featured climate and environmental music performed by children. An environmental music session led by Kazi Kalpana added to the event.
In addition, an exhibition of children’s climate-related artwork was held, while Harrypriya spoke about a summer climate workshop for children.
The organisers highlighted the importance of involving the younger generation in environmental protection and efforts to address climate change through creative activities.
The seminar combined discussions, music and children’s environmental activities, with speakers stressing the importance of awareness and the role of individuals and communities in addressing climate change.
