Bangladesh has inaugurated a solar power initiative at the National Parliament complex in a move seen as a significant step toward clean energy expansion and a greener economy.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formally launched the solar energy programme on the rooftop of the Bangladesh Parliament Building on Sunday morning, highlighting the government’s commitment to renewable energy and energy self-reliance.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister said the introduction of solar power at the parliament, the country’s symbol of democracy, reflects Bangladesh’s efforts to turn climate commitments into practical action.
“Bangladesh is currently facing severe impacts of climate change. In this critical situation, there is no alternative to environmentally friendly and renewable energy,” he said.

He expressed hope that integrating environmentally sustainable technology into the parliament complex would positively influence the country’s overall energy sector and inspire wider adoption of renewable energy solutions.
The prime minister also called on citizens to become more engaged in the use of clean and green energy as part of national efforts to address the climate crisis and protect the environment.
Senior government officials and parliament representatives attended the event.
Bangladesh, one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable nations, has increasingly prioritised renewable energy in recent years as it seeks to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and strengthen long-term energy security.
