The Switzerland-supported programme is helping Naogaon communities tackle water scarcity and embed locally identified climate priorities into government planning.
State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr Shaikh Faridul Islam visited Bangladesh’s northern district of Naogaon on Wednesday to see how locally identified priorities are being addressed through a Switzerland-supported climate adaptation programme.
During the visit, Islam joined local communities and authorities to observe activities under the Swiss-supported GO4IMPact programme, which focuses on translating community priorities into practical action.
The programme includes measures to address water scarcity, such as the re-excavation of ponds and tree planting, while also incorporating priorities identified by communities into local government planning.
The approach is intended to strengthen links between communities and local institutions and support solutions that continue beyond the life of individual projects.
Switzerland said it remains committed to supporting locally led adaptation and empowering communities and local institutions in Bangladesh to build a more climate-resilient future.
