Youth demand climate action at Global Climate Strike in Chattogram

Young activists gathered in front of Chattogram Press Club during Global Climate Strike 2026, demanding urgent climate action, climate justice, tree plantation initiatives, and collective efforts to protect Bangladesh’s future.

Young climate activists gathered in front of the Chattogram Press Club on Friday as part of the “Global Climate Strike 2026,” calling for urgent action to tackle the growing climate crisis and protect future generations.

The programme was organised by Youth People of Bangladesh as part of the global climate movement. Participants displayed placards and awareness messages supporting climate protection while urging policymakers and citizens to take immediate and effective measures against climate change.

Speaking at the event, Sidratul Munthaha, founder and chief executive of Youth People of Bangladesh, said climate change was no longer solely an environmental issue but a matter linked to humanity’s survival.

“Effective initiatives must be taken now to ensure a safe future for both present and future generations. Young people have the power to build a greener and more sustainable world through awareness, unity and collective action,” he said.

He also warned that environmental destruction, excessive carbon emissions and unplanned urbanisation were increasing climate risks every day, adding that collective efforts by the government, civil society and young people were essential to establish climate justice.

Several youth members of Youth People of Bangladesh addressed the programme and stressed the need for long-term and effective measures to shield Bangladesh from the adverse impacts of climate change.

The speakers also highlighted the importance of adopting eco-friendly lifestyles and expanding tree plantation initiatives to reduce environmental damage.

Young representatives from different social and volunteer organisations took part in the programme, reinforcing calls for greater public awareness and united action to combat climate change.
