The government reviewed measures to tackle air, water, soil and noise pollution, while stressing stronger waste management and wider use of eco-friendly block bricks.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed law enforcement agencies to take stricter measures to stop the uncontrolled use of polythene and plastic across the country.
He issued the directive on Wednesday morning, September 9, during a review meeting on controlling environmental pollution held at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
Rahman also directed the relevant ministries, divisions and government agencies to ensure they properly carry out their responsibilities in addressing the issue.
The meeting reviewed progress on government initiatives to control environmental pollution and discussed future measures, including efforts to reduce air, water, soil and noise pollution as well as improve waste management.
The prime minister also stressed the need to increase the use of environmentally friendly block bricks as part of efforts to reduce environmental damage.
The meeting was attended by Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiu Alam; State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam; State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad; State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam; Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister A B M Abdul Sattar.
