A sick crow suffering from avian pox turned up at Banshkhali veterinary hospital, where staff treated the bird after noticing its distress and unusual behaviour near the entrance.
In an unusual and touching incident, a sick crow appeared to seek help at the Upazila Livestock and Veterinary Hospital in Banshkhali yesterday, drawing attention from staff who stepped in to treat the bird.
The incident took place around 10am on April 15 when the crow was seen hovering near the hospital entrance. It made distressed calls and moved repeatedly towards medical staff, behaviour that prompted concern among those present.
Veterinarians caught the bird after noticing its condition and carried out an examination. Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Sapan Nandi and his team found that the crow was suffering from avian pox, with visible lesions and pustules across its body. Following the diagnosis, Dr Sapan Nandi and other officials began treatment.
“The crow was pacing near the door as I entered the hospital. It kept cawing and approached me,” veterinary surgeon Dr Julkarnaine Shawon told The Business Standard. “After examining it, we identified the pox infection and started treatment immediately.”
After receiving initial care, the crow was released but remained within the hospital premises. Later in the afternoon, it was given further medication, while staff also fed it an egg in the evening.
“Since the crow is staying nearby, we will continue its treatment in phases. It is currently under our observation,” Shawon added.
