CSR funding from Prime Bank will back BAU research, farmer training and extension services to help haor communities adopt sustainable agriculture across crops, fisheries and livestock.

Prime Bank PLC has partnered with Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) to support research aimed at developing climate-resilient farming technologies for crop production, fisheries and livestock management in Bangladesh’s haor region.

The bank signed a memorandum of understanding with the university to implement a special project titled “Climate Resilient Sustainable Crop, Fisheries and Livestock Development in Haor Agro-Ecosystem of Bangladesh” under Prime Bank’s special corporate social responsibility fund.

Faisal Rahman, chief executive officer of Prime Bank, and Prof Md Hammadur Rahman, director of the Bangladesh Agricultural University Research System (BAURES), signed the agreement at the bank’s head office in Dhaka yesterday. They also posed for a photograph following the signing.

The project is intended to strengthen food security and the rural economy by developing and promoting climate-resilient technologies for crops, fisheries and livestock in the haor region.

It will also seek to strengthen farmers’ capacity through training and knowledge transfer, helping them adopt sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices.

Under the initiative, Prime Bank’s CSR funding will support research into locally adapted climate-resilient farming technologies and integrated scientific studies across key agricultural sectors.

The project will also seek to empower farming communities through practical training and extension services.

M Nazeem A Choudhury, additional managing director of Prime Bank; Md Ziaur Rahman, additional managing director; Shahana Pervin, head of agro business; Prof Md Mojammel Haque, lead researcher and project director of the university; Mohammad Matiur Rahman, associate director of BAURES; and Paresh Kumar Sarma, senior scientific officer, were also present at the ceremony.
