Germany has expressed willingness to work with Bangladesh on water resource management, pollution control and climate resilience following talks between Ambassador Rüdiger Lotz and State Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie.
Germany has expressed interest in working with Bangladesh to help maintain a balance in water resources and environmental management, officials said after a meeting on Monday.
The interest was conveyed by German Ambassador to Dhaka Rüdiger Lotz during a courtesy call on Bangladesh’s State Minister for Water Resources Mohammad Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie at the Secretariat.
During the meeting at the minister’s office in the Ministry of Water Resources, Annie described Germany as a major development partner of Bangladesh. He said the current government, elected by the people, is committed to working in line with public expectations.
The minister also expressed hope for German cooperation in key areas including proper water resource management, prevention of river pollution and mitigation of floods and waterlogging.
In response, Ambassador Lotz reiterated Germany’s willingness to collaborate with Bangladesh in maintaining ecological balance in water resources and the environment. He also highlighted Germany’s broader interest in supporting Bangladesh across various sectors.
The discussions covered a range of issues, including water resource management, efficient use of surface and groundwater and the impacts of climate change.
Water Resources Secretary Dr AKM Shahabuddin and Head of Development at the German Embassy Ulrich Kleppmann were also present at the meeting.
