Experts call for climate-resilient sanitation to protect urban communities in Bangladesh

Speakers at a CUET workshop highlighted the need for climate-resilient sanitation infrastructure, stressing research, innovation and practical experience to build safe and sustainable urban sanitation systems in Bangladesh.

Speakers at a training workshop in Chattogram stressed the importance of climate-resilient sanitation infrastructure to help build a safe and sustainable sanitation system in Bangladesh.

The two-day workshop, titled “Sanitation for Urban Low-Income Communities”, was organised by the Civil Engineering Department of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology in collaboration with the International Training Network of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology at the seminar room of CUET’s Civil Engineering Department.

Addressing the closing ceremony on Tuesday, CUET Vice Chancellor Professor Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan highlighted the need for a sustainable sanitation system in the country.

He underscored the importance of research, technological innovation and practical field experience in developing a safe and sustainable sanitation framework.

Professor Dr Asiful Haque, dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Strategy, presided over the programme, which was moderated by Research Associate Farzana Khan.

The training programme featured seven technical sessions and brought together 30 trainees from 20 batches of the Civil Engineering Department.

Certificates were distributed among participants at the end of the workshop.
