Bangladesh and Uzbekistan explored cooperation on climate change, biodiversity, renewable energy, waste management, research, water security and food security during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the GEF Assembly.
Bangladesh and Uzbekistan have discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation on climate and environmental issues, including climate change, biodiversity conservation, waste management and renewable energy, during a meeting held on the sidelines of the 8th Global Environment Facility (GEF) Assembly in Samarkand.
The discussion took place on Friday between H.E. Mr. Aziz Abduhakimov, Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan on Environmental Issues and Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of Uzbekistan, and the Bangladesh delegation led by State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam, who is attending the global gathering.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest and explored avenues for closer coordination and cooperation between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan.
Key areas highlighted during the talks included climate change adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity protection, waste management, renewable energy, research and innovation, as well as water security and food security.
Both sides underscored the importance of collaboration in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development through shared knowledge and experience.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Uzbekistan Mohammad Monirul Islam, Additional Secretary Saidur Rahman and Deputy Secretary Amirul Kyser were also present at the meeting.
