ICMAB’s new ESG Center will focus on professional training, research and technical guidance while connecting Bangladesh’s accounting profession with global sustainability practices.

The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) inaugurated an ESG Center on 11 August 2026, establishing a dedicated platform for work on environmental, social and governance practices, sustainability and professional development.

ICMAB President Md. Kausar Alam FCMA formally inaugurated the center in the presence of Prof. Dr. Md. Salim Uddin FCMA, chairman of the SDG and ESG Committee; Mohammed Salim FCMA, a past president of ICMAB; members of the committee and institute officials.

ICMAB said the center is the first dedicated initiative of its kind within a professional body in Bangladesh. It will focus on professional capacity building, research, technical guidance, knowledge development, stakeholder engagement and ESG-related thought leadership.

The center will also connect Bangladeshi professionals and organisations with international practices in sustainability disclosure, climate-related risk, responsible investment and long-term value creation, according to ICMAB.

The institute said the initiative would support management accountants in responding to growing expectations from investors, regulators, development partners and global value chains.

At the national level, the center is expected to support the integration of ESG principles into corporate and public-sector decision-making. Its activities will include training, research, professional dialogue and collaboration aimed at strengthening sustainability governance, improving ESG-related information and incorporating environmental and social considerations into strategy, performance management and resource allocation.

The center will also provide a platform for engagement among professional accountants, corporate leaders, regulators, policymakers, academics, financial institutions and sustainability practitioners.

For ICMAB, the center expands its institutional role in preparing the accounting profession for emerging responsibilities in strategy, governance, risk management, resource efficiency and sustainable value creation.

The institute said members, students and other stakeholders will be supported through professional development programmes, research and publications, technical resources, executive training, case studies and collaboration with national and international organisations.

The inauguration marks ICMAB’s move towards a dedicated institutional mechanism for sustained ESG work. The institute aims to develop the center as a national platform for professional excellence, knowledge and collaboration while strengthening the contribution of the management accounting profession to a sustainable, transparent, resilient and globally competitive Bangladesh.
