Arla launches lactose-reduced milk in Bangladesh to improve nutrition

Danish and European representatives joined the product launch, highlighting cooperation on food innovation aimed at improving access to nutritious dairy for people with reduced lactose digestion.

Arla Foods Bangladesh has launched Dano Lactose-Reduced Milk in Bangladesh in response to studies showing that up to 90% of South Asians have a reduced ability to digest lactose, presenting what the company described as a nutritional challenge for more than a billion people across the region.

According to the Embassy of Denmark in Bangladesh, the new product is intended to make dairy more accessible for people who experience discomfort from lactose while maintaining the nutritional value of milk through advances in food science.

The launch was attended by Christian Brix Møller, Ambassador of Denmark to Bangladesh; Nadia Itani, Head of Trade and Investments at the Embassy of Denmark; and Nuria Lopez, Chairperson of EuroCham Bangladesh.

The embassy said their participation highlighted the partnership between Denmark, Bangladesh and the European business community in advancing sustainable and innovative food solutions.

Studies cited by the embassy indicate that up to 90% of South Asians have a reduced ability to digest lactose, creating nutritional challenges across the region. It said lactose reduction enables milk to retain its nutritional value while improving digestibility for people who are lactose intolerant.
