EU invests €103 million in strategic climate and environment projects across Europe

The European Commission has announced over €103 million in funding through the LIFE programme to support seven strategic projects advancing climate resilience, nature restoration, water management and sustainable development across Europe.

The European Commission has announced an investment of more than €103 million in seven major strategic projects aimed at strengthening climate action environmental protection and sustainable development across Europe.

The funding will be delivered through the EU’s LIFE programme and will support initiatives designed to reinforce economic stability food systems environmental ecosystems and public health while improving overall quality of life across the continent.

According to the European Commission the selected projects will be implemented in Finland France Greece the Netherlands Portugal Slovakia and Spain. The initiatives are expected to accelerate the implementation of the European Union’s environmental and climate policies while mobilising additional national public and private investment.

The projects will focus on several key priorities including climate resilience water management nature restoration circular economy development and sustainable land use.

European officials say the funding is part of a broader effort to strengthen environmental governance while ensuring long term economic and social resilience across the region.

European Commissioner for Climate Action Wopke Hoekstra stressed the urgency of climate investment.

“The cost of inaction keeps rising. Investing in climate is not optional it is essential for our economy our security and our independence. The business case for accelerating the clean transition is clear and these Strategic LIFE projects are investments that adds on towards our climate goals,” Hoekstra said.

Jessika Roswall the European Commissioner responsible for Environment Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy said the projects would strengthen the continent’s environmental foundations.

“Long term strategic LIFE projects are essential to deliver a secure and sustainable Europe. Today’s investment strengthens Europe’s natural infrastructure the foundation of our economic security competitiveness and resilience,” Roswall said.

The European Commission said the seven projects will play a key role in helping Europe advance climate resilience environmental sustainability and long term economic stability.
