Bangladesh and Japan have signed a landmark environmental MoU in Tokyo, strengthening cooperation on climate action, pollution control, waste management and biodiversity through joint projects, technical exchanges and capacity-building initiatives.
Bangladesh and Japan have taken a major step to boost bilateral cooperation on environmental protection, climate action and sustainable development.
On Friday, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of Bangladesh and Japan’s Ministry of the Environment formally signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Tokyo. Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Japan, Md. Daud Ali, and Japan’s Vice Minister for the Environment, Kentaro Dio, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective governments.
The agreement comes at a critical time, as Bangladesh faces rising environmental challenges such as flooding, pollution and the impacts of climate change, highlighting the importance of international partnerships in building climate resilience and protecting natural resources.
The MoU focuses on key environmental areas, including climate change mitigation and adaptation, pollution control, waste management and biodiversity conservation. Under the agreement, both countries will share knowledge, expertise and technical capacity to strengthen each other’s environmental initiatives.
According to the Embassy of Bangladesh in Tokyo, this MoU is expected to enhance collaboration on joint projects, technical exchanges and capacity-building initiatives, reinforcing the commitment of both nations to sustainable development.
