Four brick kilns fined Tk 1.8 lakh in Ctg

In a joint mobile courts operation led by the Chittagong District Administration and the Department of Environment, today (October 9) fined Tk 1.8 lakh to four brick kilns in the Joynagar, Rashidapara, and Kalampati areas of Raujan upazila of Chittagong.

The operation, overseen by Executive Magistrate Rakibul Islam, aimed to crack down on illegal brick manufacturing activities that violated environmental regulations. Md. Ashraf Uddin, Research Officer from the Department of Environment, Chittagong District Office, was present to monitor the proceedings. Law enforcement personnel from Raujan Police Station provided security and helped maintain order during the operation.

Ashraf Uddin said that during the operation four brick kilns were found to be operating in breach of the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act-2013. “Jamuna Bricks Industries, Hazrat Jalil Shah (R) Bricks and Anwar Bricks Industries were charged under Section 15 of the Act for violating Section 5, specifically for illegally sourcing soil without approval from the Deputy Commissioner for brick-making purposes. They were fined Tk 50000 each. Another kiln named Ekta Bricks was fined Tk 30000”, he added.

He also said that the mobile courts ensured that all fines were collected on the spot, underscoring the administration’s commitment to upholding environmental laws.
