Students in Chattogram took part in essay and drawing contests promoting renewable energy, as campaigners stressed awareness, sustainability and the role of young generations in advancing green energy solutions.
Essay and drawing competitions on green energy were held at Asian Abashik School and College in Bahaddarhat in Chattogram city on Tuesday under a campaign programme for primary and secondary schools aimed at raising the use of green energy and building awareness among the younger generation.
The programme focused on energy produced from natural sources such as solar power, hydropower and wind power, which are known as green energy. It was organised by private development organisation ISDE Bangladesh, CLEAN and BWGED, and drew enthusiastic participation from a large number of students.
Young students expressed their creativity through essays on the importance of renewable energy such as solar, water and wind power and on the role of all sections of society in protecting the environment. They also reflected the theme through their drawings.
A prize-giving ceremony was later held for participants in the essay and drawing competitions as part of the awareness campaign.
The event was conducted by CAB Chattogram Divisional Organiser Rasel Uddin and chaired by Osman Sarwar, founder and vice-principal of Asian Residential School and College.
Among those who addressed in the function were CAB central committee Vice President and ISDE Executive Director S M Nazer Hossain, Daily purbodesh news editor Abu Mosharaf Rasel, CAB Chattogram Divisional General Secretary Kazi Iqbal Bahar Saberi, CAB Chandgaon thana President Md Jane Alam, ISDE Bangladesh Project Officer Raisul Islam and Admin Officer Abdul Mannan Jihad.
Speaking at the event, S M Nazer Hossain said energy security was now under threat because of various factors, including global wars.
He said the government would have to take stronger steps to build the capacity for energy supply from natural sources, while ordinary people must also come forward. There was no alternative to public awareness in expanding the potential of green energy, he said.
He added that the main goal of arranging such events at primary and secondary schools was to create mass awareness among young students about the use of environmentally friendly green energy and to encourage future generations to use sustainable energy.
Abu Mosharaf Rasel said today’s students were the future of the nation, so more such programmes on sustainable energy should be arranged for them. He said the nation would benefit if awareness-building initiatives of this kind were expanded in future.
At the end of the programme, prizes and certificates were distributed among the winning students. Teachers, students, guardians and representatives of the organising bodies were present.
